4 ways to stand out (and book clients!) in a sea of wedding photographers

There are a LOT of photographers today. It’s easy to be tempted to say the industry is too saturated to even start (or to quit because of it!). A business with systems and business strategy in place will be able to stand out in the market + charge what they’re worth, even if their competitor is cheaper. You have something unique to bring to the industry.

1. Connect to your ideal client – allow them to fall in love with YOU.

Once you’re connecting to your ideal client on multiple levels, people will choose you over someone with a similar style who doesn’t take time to connect to their audience. The connection between a couple and their photographer on their wedding day is so, so important so this is huge. They hire you because they value you AND your work.

2. Ask yourself: what sets me apart?

  • What am I doing differently than the rest?

  • What do clients rave about in their feedback? (read through your reviews and look for repeated words)

  • What do you get complimented on the most in your business?

These things will set you apart from other businesses in your industry.

3. Share what makes you valuable!

  • Clients will choose to hire you if your services/brand align with what they value.

    • Are you the type of person who will you spend more money on organic food?

    • Will you spend $100+ on Madewell jeans vs Walmart jeans?

    • Share the benefits of your services/products in your website copy, in your inquiry emails, at client consultations, instagram, etc.

  • What is the value of your wedding experience over someone else’s?

    • “I educate my clients in all aspects of prepping for wedding photography by sending them a magazine.”

    • “I have photographed over 100 weddings.”

    • “I am an organized business owner and answer emails within 24 hours.”

  • Under promise, over deliver to clients. Always.

  • Create a valuable client experience that has people raving about you.

4. Don’t constantly look at other photographers for inspiration.

Yes, there’s a time and a place. But if you’re constantly getting your inspiration by copying a photo you saw on Instagram, you will blend in with the rest. Find inspo by taking a walk, traveling, playing with the afternoon shadows in your house, asking a friend to model for you, reading books, etc.

When you’re shooting, find a unique angle, put the subject in unique lighting, shoot things that are compelling to you.

I’d love to hear from you in the comments below!

1. What is one unique aspect to your business?

2. Where do you find inspiration?
